BeamsTV Scam

by [deleted]

** Titled while still angry. Probably not a scam, just poor customer service. **

Have been a very satisfied user of BeamsTV for 3 years now but no longer.

Had an issue a few days ago with a message telling me that my box had been blocked. Raised a ticket on their support site.

Was told that my MAC address had been found in another user's system (Whatever that means). They confirmed that they could get this fixed and also confirmed that I "definitely won't lose my subscription".

A few messages later they state that I need to provide my MAC address, which I do.

Wrong MAC address they say, it's not on our system.

"Ok" I say. "It's from the same box that I've been using for the past 3 years". "What happens now then?" I ask.

They basically say "Not our problem mate, if your MAC isn't on our system then you'll need to buy another sub"

They had a change of website in the new year and my subscription (up until November) was on the old website, which apparently they have no records of whatsoever.

I have got rather angry over this as you can imagine, which has resulted in me being Banned from both the website and their Discord channel. The reason being... "unable to get issue fixed with this type of attitude."

That's a total joke, as they never even offered to attempt to fix my issue, I could either give them this mystical MAC address that they were after, or buy a new sub. That was the only 2 options I was given. Not really trying to solve my issue at all, and have now shut down all communications.

So. I don't know whether this is a scam (seems unlikely, considering I've had nothing but faultless service from them for the past 3 years), or just bad customer service. But I have paid for a year's subscription (I have a CryptoPay receipt to prove this) that has been cut short by 5 months through no fault of myself.

I'd advise folks to steer clear.

Not for nothing, but if you've been in the game for 3 years I have no doubt that you've seen it posted everywhere not to sub to anyone a year at a time. This is one of the reasons why. Take it as a learning exercise and just move on. Don't sub for a year again... To anyone.

They are very rude and arrogant. They are not technical people at all and don't understand how the internet works. If they have an engineer is just one guy and he's an amateur.

The paint everyone with the same brush, and this they are always right.

HALF of their channels never worked! Their football list had every game under the sun but only one set of premiership worked. And many many times their service would become interrupted which they always deny and then apologize after for.

They also failed of a Plex project, most probably because the guy who was starting it up with them realised what a joke they were and left.....

Obviously not a scam if you had them for 3 years of supposedly "flawless service."

This sounds like a simple tech support issue, and sometimes with those kinds of issues of untangling service problems patience is called for. You claim that you have got "rather angry", which was probably not well received by those who you were counting on helping you untangle the problem. If you engaged in name calling of individuals and lots of profanity I can see their side in this matter, too.

I would try to email/DM them once more, now that things hopefully have cooled off a bit, and ask for reinstatement of your service or a partial refund.

Seems more like a technological error than bad service. It’s hard trying to find a reliable provider these days, I’m still searching. But as others said- I’d do 1,3,6 months just to not be screwed in some way ya know

Ok here is what happened. This has been happening for a few years now. Beam has been reported to your box manufacturer. Your manufacturer had to block Beams service to all mac boxes they have subs for. Since u did not mention the Box name I can only tell you that you might have a problem getting it working with Beam ever again. You may have to get a new box. Some other providers might be able to unlock your box. I have only been able to unlock 2 boxes out of 15. The to I did unlock was because I had physical access. Most users have issues

I had to reflash those boxes back to a new state. Most users who only watch tv will have problems restoring the box. You will need to remove Beams link on the box and add a new service. You can pm me and we can give it a try. Save yourself the trouble and Buy a firestick or an android box and keep away from Mac address boxes. Beam will not be able to add time to your new box either but if you are that happy with Beam you can get a new box and ask for an extreme code. The only problem with Beam is that they are now on a Watchlist as most services that get Blocked url's never surviving the increasing amount of legal issues that may come in the near future.

If you are intent on fixing the box contact the manufacture or their web site and see if they have a solution

Update for this.

The guy that runs the site got in touch and made all the right noises about getting things sorted. Asked me to add him as a friend on Discord. That was over a month ago and he's yet to accept my request. Initial thoughts confirmed; Beams-TV are ThunderCunts.
