I am a newbie to IPTV and am most interested in Canadian (both French and English), US, French and Irish channels. On Christmas Eve, after browsing r/iptv and learning about various providers and resellers, I decided to sign up for Epicstream via the tdshost reseller.
I chose Epic because of their Canada-centric channel lineup.
THE GOOD:
-
Most of the Canadian channels are offered in HD.
-
The channels are organized well - major broadcast networks are first on the “All Channels” list, followed by basic cable networks. The US and Canadian versions of each channel (such as HGTV or Food Network) are placed side by side, which makes it easy to flip between either feed.
-
The service seemed reliable; only one short outage, about 15 minutes, in the whole month I tried Epic. I didn’t notice any buffering problems except on the French Canadian channels.
-
I barely used VOD or catch up but both seemed adequate (catch up channels were very limited compared to Helix, however).
-
TDS was a very easy reseller to use. They accept PayPal on their website and my Epicstream account was set up immediately upon payment.
THE BAD:
-
Although most Canadian channels are HD, they are 30 FPS so the quality is not great on live sports.
-
US local channel selection is very limited. When I first signed up in December, only Boston network affiliates were available. In early January, Epic added a handful of other cities’ local channels - but still only 69 locals instead of the 400+ that some other services carry.
-
Most of the French Canadian channels either did not work or had terrible buffering (TVA, for example). And Epic does not carry channels from France.
-
The price ($14 US per month) is higher than all the other IPTV services I’ve tried since, and Epic has fewer channels and worse picture quality than the cheaper alternatives.
My overall verdict on Epicstream: “meh.” Not bad but not a standout in any way.
Use to be the iptv standard , regrettably now you would get more joy out of a can of bud !
