Helix Hosting review - one month of service

by m_abdelfattah

I tried two or three different providers before, but honestly, Helix is relatively better. I've been using their service for one month, and I use it only for premier league matches (Mostly Liverpool ones).
The service automated, so no wait to get activated, your account gets activated instantly.
The support is just amazing; it never took them more than 1 hour to respond.
The channels/VOD variety is also perfect!
The only reason that I'm thinking not to renew with them and look for another provider is random performance issues. Once there is a match, it drives me crazy, channels work well for 5 minutes then stops, etc. which is annoying, mainly I'm paying only for soccer matches.

So, if you want a good collection of channels, definitely go for them, but if you want to watch premier league or other big soccer leagues, I don't think they are the best option.

I really appreciate your suggestions for better providers with more reliable service when it comes to stream big soccer matches.

Helix removing PayPal finished me as a subscriber, my cc was rejected by their portal and I’d rather not have to buy bitcoin monthly to keep the service running. However their service ran well for me when I used it a few months back.

There is a trade off between reliability, price, and number of channels. So the best solution is usually two subs. Maybe a cheap one like $5-7/month and a primary $12-20. And the main reason is none of them are good 100% of the time. Its cheap enough and easy to switch so its OK to try a lot of them before sticking with the same subs.

Helix is okay but can be laggy even with a VPN on. You get what you pay for. I also found their BT Sport channels terribly laggy but the Sky ones hit and miss

I've also found Helix to be not great for premier league matches. I sometimes have more luck watching lower quality streams on American or Canadian channels, but the Sky/BT channels are rarely worth bothering with. The last few games I've just watched via AceStream instead and haven't bothered with Helix at all.

For the last few days I've not been able to get BBC1, BBC2, or Channel 4 to work, even in SD during the daytime, which is not acceptable.

I also remember having a lot of trouble with payment processing last time, but I can't remember what I did now to make it work.

So, I'm pretty disappointed right now and like you I came here looking for better services.

The issue you have is if people recommend services they tend to get overloaded if I was you I would hang on for service like Eternal.tv with there strict customers levels or on the premium, the side have a look at nitro.tv or beast who have seemed to have invested in bigger servers but you pay a higher price for it.

Helix is an excellent service for me and my father (who isn't the most tech savvy). The only nit picks I have is that BT Sport can play up during football matches the odd time, but there are plenty of other channels that show the same matches so I never miss any of the action. My only other nit pick is the NBA section shows team names now instead of the nights match, and those channels aren't the most reliable.

Aside from that, I can't knock the service tbh.

I have used most of the well known providers over the past couple of years. I still use Helix, but the only reason I use Helix is because of the big amount of North American channels with catch-up that it has. I haven't found any other provider with that many North American channels with catch-up. Other than that, the service is not what I would call "solid".

There are several providers with UK catch-up, but not North American. Vader has, but not that many. TVZON has, but not that many. Beast has many, but still less than Helix and it's much more expensive (I pay US$9 for Helix vs. US$15 for Beast). Express has, but the selection and organization of channels is terrible (one big English section with channels even from India). IPGuys has many, but only for 6 hours or so.

I use Eternal as my main provider for North American channels. Don't be fooled by the price, it is a solid provider. The only downside for me is that only a few channels have catch-up, but the quality of the channels is very good and the EPG is top notch with hardly any buffering, and even the channel pages load much faster than Helix in StbEmu.

I use King Box for UK and Spain channels, and Helix (via Root Hosting) and TVZON for North American catch-up. Helix because of the big amount of channels with catch-up and TVZON because the catch-up is very reliable and it goes all the way back to 7 days.

All in all, Helix is just okay as a secondary service mainly because of the catch-up. It is not reliable at all, even though it's not the cheapest.

u/j2225 , u/s_sayan I just tried beast and the channels are very limited in comparison with Helix. They don't have any Arab channels. I even requested service cancellation and refund.

I use Helix for EPL, and I agree that from time to time, they seem to have issues during big match days. This is why I have always streamed from /r/soccerstreams as a very good back up. The reliability of the back up on big match days is much better than Helix itself sometimes. However, Helix is very good for mainstream UK channels in FHD. I have used them for over 3 months and will keep using them.

Any free trials with Helix?

I was going to give these guys a try but the packages offered are only for one connection. You have to pay extra for a 2nd connection or more.

Went to renew today, all of their payment options declined and poor customer support. They also don't accept bitcoin
