Positive IPTV Review - Helix

by szetymereg

Website : 6/10 - I found their website to be easy to navigate. Their setup guides are all grouped together, and the channel list was easy enough to find. The only real complaint I have is the packages contents. The UK and the US/CA and Single Packages but the Double Package and the Triple Package was really silly. It’s 1 great Britain pound extra for adult channels. Really just lump them in to the Double and call it a day.

Channels : 8/10 - I’m more than happy with the channel line-up. My review is from a very US-centric perspective, so take that for what you will. I have all the US channels I could want. There is much channel duplication which is nice when one goes down you can find the same one in another category. Sadly it can create a mess of a channel list. I use the Helix App and the favorites channel is a life saver. A cool thing is they have all the channel icons.

Picture Quality : 7/10 – Main USA channels are impressive. High quality with I’m paying about $12/mon for a lot of channels mixed 720 1080 quality, I accept that as I’m not paying Time Warner $120/mo.

Reliability : 6/10 – This one is hard to judge. I do follow their twitter. https://twitter.com/HostHlx

I get their updates but they post all these issues.. if I was watching 24/7 I would be bothered but it’s worked for me when I needed.. I wonder if this page does them a disservice.. a new customer may think they are down most of the time. The truth is they are up and works great 99% of the time. I know IPTV goes down ones in a while. They are much better than a few services I came from.

Note: They were 100% perfect for the McGregor/Kabib fight.

EPG : 7/10 – They have EPG for US / UK and CA. US movie channels seem to be hit or miss with EPG but it is something I see with the US Movies, I think their sources might pull these movie channels from CA and they in US EPG.

Set-Up : 10/10 . I’ve tried a handful of sources and setting up with Helix is easy. Once I paid I get an email. I use Fire DL to load the app to the Firestick and I am good to go.

Support : 8/10 Twitter and tickets is all you get with Helix. Twitter only used for announcements. They do not respond on twitter.. No forums, discord, telegram or chat. Tickets is all you from them. Response time is 2-3 hours on average. Responses is relatively helpful. When I asked about why no chat.. they mention they need a person to handle and manage. I been in chats for other providers and chats can get nasty especially when there is service issues. So far they been fair and nice to deal with.

Overall , I’d give Helix a solid 8/10 . For what I’m getting, I’m perfectly fine with what I’m spending. Perhaps there is a better provider out there, but I’m not going to bother trying to find it, because, why? Their service could only possibly be marginally better but Helix seems to fit the bill for now. Hopefully they stay that way.

Thank you for the review.
I've been keen on trying Helix, but I wonder how much of a difference there would be from TNT.

I understand that they have some catchup channels?

The price is a little higher, than I'd like to try, but I've always heard that they are quite good for reliability.

The twitter account looks "full" but compare it to Vaders....

I have paid for the 48 hours trial yesterday and tried out the sly sport premier league game between Chelsea and Man Utd, the match was on HD, image was clear without buffering. But on the EPL/SPFL/ifOLLOW channel, most of the 3pm premier league games was constantly buffering at HD.

I have Helix as well and I feel pretty similar about the service.

My big gripes are the EPG and that you have to make extensive use of favorites because of how they split channels into various categories like the VIP, HD/FHD lists that are separate from the primary location of the channel such as USA entertainment. Of course if you pay for xtream-editor you can customize that yourself.

There were a few small hiccups during McGregor/Kabib but overall they did a pretty good job keeping it up and even added another PPV stream during the event.

Catch up is the only real downside to the service. When it does work, it buffers like crazy for me so it’s pretty much useless.

For the price, it’s alright, I will probably keep them.

I also have TPK though and honestly TPK gives Helix a run for the money when you factor in the fact it’s only 5 bucks a month. There’s no catch up on TPK but as it doesn’t really work right on Helix, I don’t really care.

I'm a customer of both Helix and TNT, and pretty much have to switch between the two multiple times during the course of several hours of viewing in order to maintain continuity, so i'd echo the usual advice about not relying on one provider and to have at least one other service for back up. Helix pretty much suffers from the same problems as every other currently active service that i've tried, but I find that for me channel drop outs on Helix are more frequent than buffering, and this is where the channel stream simply disappears halfway through watching something, leaving you with a black screen which may last for anything between a few seconds to thirty minutes and usually I have to switch to my back up service to continue watching the program!.

Scrolling through the channel listings on Helix on a MAG box is also like wading through quicksand, with each press of the 'up' / 'down' key taking 2 -3 seconds to be replicated on the screen, which is frustrating and annoying. I don't have the same problem on the same box when using TNT nor with any previous provider.

Unfortunately both TNT and Helix seem to be using the same sources for several of their basic UK entertainment channels, and this source seems to be where drop outs, looping, streams skipping backwards and forwards by several seconds are frequent and so currently the same issues seem to be affecting both TNT and Helix, so I suspect I will be replacing one of these providers at the end of the billing period.

Server problems / outages on Helix do happen, sometimes a few times per week (as documented by their own Twitter feed history) but this is probably in line with any other provider.

Like the majority of providers all of Helix's efforts seem to be directed towards keeping Sports events up and running - which figures as this is where the bulk of demand lies, but this does seem to mean that the non sports channels are overlooked, often leading to them dropping out, looping, missing audio or just showing a completely different channel. I was previously with the now defunct Fab and Flawless and the Entertainment channels did seem to be a lot more stable from both of these providers.

As far as stability goes, i'd rate the Sports events at 7/10 but the reliability on "UK Entertainment" at just 4/10, so if you are a UK based non sports fan who requires IPTV for their daily viewing then I suspect Helix probably won't be for you.

If you are a UK subscriber then you will need a VPN, regardless of whether you watch the Sports events or not.

VOD seems to be falling out of favour with a lot of users, but whenever I try to access the TV Series VOD options they are nearly always down on Helix, for example now i'm currently getting a 'server not found' message whenever I try to access any files in this section. The 24/7 channels appear to be running fine though.

I believe that both TNT and Eternal have closed their doors to new subscribers, so in a world of dwindling numbers of established service providers, Helix is probably one of the more usable in this price bracket, but you will probably be thankful for access to a back up provider.

Used it for 4 months. Usually reliable and easy to navigate on ProgTV on the Shield.

The fight was absolutely crystal clear at 1080...not one second of buffering that night.

All my family uses it...highly recommend.

I can't believe how cheap and easy Helix is. I even had my parents get it set up on their own, and they are the kind of people to ask "Where is the right click button?" lmao

Zaximus20

I just signed up for it today as a backup to Eternal and it has a ton of channel's and vod. If you are in to sports it even has all the ESPN+'s as well as Goal Line, you can watch any small market game you want if that's your thing.

joemackg

Agreed. It's nearly perfect compared to NFPS and Smash (now gone).

I'm satisfied with Helix.

triggerfish56

That is a good subjective review and it pretty much exactly echoes my thoughts.

I have the Single Helix and am mainly interested in sports and UK channels and I particularly agree that the availability of multiple sources saves a lot of headaches if one stream is playing up.

I'd say the VOD and catch up selection is fair but I really think of them as a free of charge add on as I have had services that offer none and wouldn't change my view if they were removed.

It wouldn't take much effort to find slightly cheaper (and far more expensive) suppliers but I will happily take another 3 months when my sub is up next month.

I strongly recommend using Helix Been with them 2 months now and almost zero issues. Only complaint i have is with their payment options. If it wasnt for adding funds via paypal my mastercard doesnt support their "3d" security option. Strongly suggest their service though it has been great.

dcren21

This has been about my experience also. I haven't had hardly any issues with them, and I'm satisfied with my service. I don't expect it to be perfect, based on what I'm paying for the service. I would recommend them and I have to friends and family.

Fly191012

Hi great review, I have been using Helix for over 5 months now, and they are by far the most reliable provider I have used. My only complain will be the way they organize the channels.

ogrotrabajador

Helix is good. Support is helpful and responsive. They're on reddit a lot too if you poke around long enough. Sources on EPL occasionally go down.

What is the best way to make payment from the USA? tx

antgoncalves22

Using Helix for almost 1 month now. The only bad thing, is that sometimes one or another channel began to buffer. Once i opened a support ticket for a channel buffering, and they fixed it in about 2-3 hours. Overall, im very satisfied with their service.

megaman912

Are there any Helix IPTV resellers that can offer any promotion? or any coupon codes?

Leonardogalvezz

Im new to this can someone guild me the way to buy this

antonis_kar

Quality on some FHD channels is improving.

But reliability is not. Especially on football channels in the weekend, it's usually not working at all, so it's a waste of time if you want the popular football matches on decent quality.

The lower quality channels will usually work ( probably cause of lower bandwidth demands )

lvg_mufc

Can any UK users please let me know if a VPN is essential to use this? and how much does one cost a month on average?

mike3y

What is the difference between vip and the standard ???
