Review on Ultrabox (after replacing Ace)

by khull

As a refugee of Ace, like many, I was forced to do research again across multiple subreddits in a short amount of time. This time I would like to share my experience on Ultrabox (Epicstream)

The timing of my research coincided with the big PPV event today that allowed me to evaluate the response times of resellers and streaming experience. Overall there was plenty of information available between the two options, channel lists, and reviews included. I hope mine will help you address the same questions I’ve had and save you some time.

Both Ultrabox and Ace were comparable in price point, with the initial difference you’ll notice is the channel list and both are comparable for what I was after across UK/US channels. Ace had a slight edge here with 24/7 and larger range of VOD. My next criteria was to look at the range of SD/HD/FHD channels. Don’t get caught out here - if you are on lower bandwidth or have the need to conserve data or are mostly accessing channels on the go, having SD and HD options isn’t a bad idea. With more HD channels, Ultrabox seems to be ahead if are not constrained by bandwidth or data caps.

In terms of availability of information from resellers, those who are newer and less familiar with configuration of the service, I found Epic resellers had a more human touch in elaborating the configuration process better and making it seem less daunting to new users. As this was not my first time, I navigated this without any problems. Your needs will likely vary in terms of the device and method you would be using to watch. Overall, if you are already familiar with the setup, do not dismiss the lack of information to support newer users, as transparency is often a criteria that is considered when evaluating providers. There was a higher level of activity on Ultrabox, with a dedicated forum of community users. If you ever get stuck or encounter issues, this would a good place to start with a fair amount of user activity at time of this post.

As for the experience, I applied the same thought process against the providers and the reviews mentioned in search engines, reddit, along with my uncertainty level based on the amount of information available by resellers or the public posts. Again, don’t completely discard negative reviews on Epic resellers or forum posts like Ultrabox as you would normally see a healthy range of comments. I found Ultrabox to be the closest to Ace TV, with the same process in the ordering/provisioning, configuration, similar policies on multiple connections, configurable channel lists (with/without adult channels), and overall support. The knowledge base available was useful and reminiscent of Ace and I recalled how useful that was this was a great value coupled with a support forum.

Access was provided manually with Ultrabox, however it was not too much of a wait, so don't panic after your order is completed. The account management is detailed and flexible with the same interface that you might come across from Ace. I will try next to do a mid-term change with support and report on the experience back. Overall, there is a dashboard that helps you navigate the account management screen and every menu item on screen has a purpose and marked clearly.

Operational aspects - Video quality is amazing as others might report similarly. The selection of HD and FHD channels are higher although the number of overall channels are not to what you would have seen in Ace. The experience that bothered me somewhat is the grouping of channels, although logical, is not as what I was familiar with - for example, Movie Networks are combined across regions. While this behaviour can be address manually by editing the playlist, I am open to try this new grouping. The stand out here above everything else, is all channels (including sports) begin streaming immediately as I tried my very best to find a stream that was either down or would buffer - and was unsuccessful in the process (It is worth mentioning I’ve not tried non English channels and that I am on a fast 1000/500 fiber connection). No such luck in my attempts to find faults in the streams, and I’ll update this as the weeks go. So far it has been impressive.

Pros:

  • Reliable channels and streaming experience. There is nothing worse than finding out the channel you are interested is not able to stream or buffers - I could not fault them so far on this.

  • Great for newer users (not just Ace), with knowledgeable how-to start off

  • Prompt service in consideration of manual provisioning

  • Transparency of information and discussion, when compared to alternatives. The forum ultrabox.site will be useful in gauging the quality and responsiveness of the service

  • Dedicated discussion forum with a community of users who are willing to help out

  • KODI add-ons available to quickly get started along with specific instructions to set up on Enigma2, MyIPTV Player, PerfectPlayer, iOS / Android, or your Smart TV (m3u8 for SmartIPTV)

  • Similar browser access (unsecure and not officially documented) handy for remote situations or devices that are used temporarily to watch streams. Only use on VPN or trusted network. Needs Videolan plugin.

Areas of opportunity or improvement:

  • VOD selection is good and with room to grow

  • 24/7 channels not available (yet)

  • Trial period not available from Ultrabox

Given I was comfortable with what I observed and rely on my past experiences, I just went ahead without concern after stepping through the above thought process, confident with my choice. You may wish to evaluate your needs based on the above information first.

As per my reviews, If you found this useful in your search for your next provider especially after Ace, please use my link https://www.ultraboxhost.com/aff.php?aff=159 which I would sincerely appreciate, otherwise without regrets, the standard page is https://www.ultraboxhost.com/

You ruined it with your affiliate link, text seems totally organised pre-written advert, business essay, shame.

EPIC is obviously a good provider and UltraBox a good reseller, but I see no logic in these sugar-coated reviews.

Like most people I also find the channel groupings pretty bad. They should mirror the groupings of ace and flawless for UK and US content, it's much more logical. It may be possible to change them around but not on an enigma2 box and not if you want to update the m3u each night to pick up any changes (which you will need to do regularly, particularly if you want to pick up any ppv channels) because any ordering you put in will get wiped out when it updates.

With suls plugin you can re-order channels in an override file and it will remember it through updates, but can ONLY re-order within the same category that it is already in, so it only helps partially (one of the authors has indicated this might be possible in a future version but would require a major rewrite of the code).

I might give these guys a go, do they do all the UK channels?

Just want to throw in my oar. I too am an ace refugee, having just paid for a year before they screwed everybody. I went with fab - which at first they were great, but now I'm lucky if I can get a channel to load. Oh and they don't seem to support VPNs. So if you are in the UK, like me, your pretty SoL. They are cheap I guess though :)

That said, their website ALWAYS seems to load the channels, just seems to be the playlists that you use in the various IPTV players that doesn't play ball. Not sure what the difference is, but yeah, always fun!

Well the fact they offer two different plans for m3u8 and mac already shows they don't have the same multiroom access as ACE did. sham post

Ultrabox (Epic) has improved quite a bit. It's a pretty solid service these days.

Does Ultrabox/Epic offer TV catch-up?

I was using ACE IPTV also until their unfortunate demise. I opted for Ultrabox a few days before the Anthony Joshua fight. Fight night started and I could not get a stream to work at all. The good news was, this was my own fault. I changed VPN providers and all I can say is, I'm more than happy with Ultrabox. I think their live premiership and UFC streams are actually a far superior quality, than the ACE IPTV streams ever were. I found myself many times dropping out of streams with ACE and having to click back onto the link. Once I'm up and going with Ultrabox, I have no issues at all. I will be getting 6 months for sure whenever my tester month is up.

I'm just trying to get my head around the M3U8 Hosting Plans by Ultrabox. Since all plans offered are the same price why wouldn't you go for the max package (all streams)?

I can only think this is so you wouldn't have to scroll through the foreign groups as you are navigating you way around?...

Aval_Plaza

Very thorough and extensive work you did there, thank you.

But Ace was only half of this whopping 180$ bill on a yearly basis.

I can vouch for EpicStreams - they have been great so far. Very reliable. I was using Gears TV and Vaders before. EpicStreams has the same reliability/better than Gears TV with true 1080P picture quality. they do not mess with bit rates. They have over 30 channels that are 1080P/60 FPS. With 130 channels in full 1080P. Resellers are top notch - I'm currently subscribed to Fireflytv.online . I do agree that the channel groupings/categories need some work, i'm used to Vaders which was much easier to navigate. Take 15-20 minutes and add all the channels you want to your Favorites and you are good to go.

On the channel list it has 9 channels for NBA League Pass. Why not the full 14 like the Other IPTVs that have 14. The real NBA LP I believe has 14 also.

How good was NBA on Epic Last season?

I also just signed up a few days ago via Ultrabox and previously with ACE. I have Kodi, PP, STBemu, MX Player all functioning properly. Just a couple of buffers here and there but it is very stable. I am surprised Kodi is working so smooth. The only thing I can say is that I have moved to a new condo building with FTTH and that could be the difference. There are more FHD channels and I like the fact I can select an all English package. EPL worked great this weekend. It is still only 1 wk for me, so time will tell. Paying a mth first, so I keep my options open in the event I decide to go to another provider.
