Gears TV 4 Month Review

by BigAlligatorPears

I'll start off by saying that IPTV is more of a hobby for me than anything else. I usually prefer using Plex, Netflix or Kodi Addons for my media purposes.

Gears TV paired with the Mayfair Guide Pro is one of the best setups I've used and one of the closest things to a legit cable type experience. The EPG is very accurate and runs smooth, which is a deal breaker for me. I've tried IVUE before and the Simple IPTV Client and didn't like either compared to the Mayfair Guide Gears TV offers.

I have been using Gears TV for 4 months now and it has become my favorite iptv provider. I have used VaderStreams, Smoothstreams, Fab, Flawless, Epic, Streamhub Premium and Players Klub since getting into iptv and so far Gears TV has been the most reliable for me. I currently have Flawless and Streamhub Premium as my backup

Here's my setup: Using a FireTV with Kodi 17.3 100mpbs+ on my connection Mayfair Guide Pro addon through Kodi (APK available too) Price: Gears TV is $15 a month plus $2.50 a month for the Mayfair Guide Pro, but they also offer a free version.

I started using Gears TV a few months ago when they had some free trials going on and was impressed with the quality. I signed up shortly after and they started having massive problems for about a week+, but I stuck with them and used Fab as my backup in the meantime. After their major cluster fuck (which seems all IPTV providers go through every once and awhile) they have been rock solid ever since. I have been able to watch hours at a time without any issues. I used them during the Mayweather fight and it was solid the whole night.

Customer service is questionable as you can see from other reviews on here, but I haven't had to contact them about any issues in 4 months. After looking through their Facebook group they deal with a lot of pain in the ass customers too. It's IPTV though, so what the fuck do you want? Most major cable companies give you shit customer service too.

That being said, they run a Facebook group that keeps a pretty updated list of down channels. I have seen as many of 40+ channels down to as little has 5+ down. Either way they keep you pretty updated when it comes to down channels. I would recommend following them on Facebook and watching the down channel thread to see if a channel you really love always seems to be down. I would say on average a channel is down for about a day or two.

As far as a channel list they have about every major US/CA channel I can think of plus a bunch of UK channels. No VOD or catchup. Some 24/7 channels work apparently, but I've never used them.

I would recommend Gears TV if you want a strictly US channel focused service with a really good EPG. They have all the standard UK channels as a bonus too.

I joined gears the night of the mayweather fight and it ran great. The word on the street is that the iOS app is being released today. Gears bottom line it just works

WHATis4LETTERS

Been using the iOS app now for a couple of days and it's been running great, loads fast and almost no buffering. Used Cydia impactor to side load it onto my iPhone. The app only works for a week at a time if you don't have a developer account from apple, otherwise if you are jail broken you can have the app working for as long as your iPhone is jail broken using a tweak. The app is just like the apk version for android. You can also pause live TV for up to 10 minutes I believe. They are still working on getting the 24/7 section running, I believe they are trying to get around the way the media is encoded and how the iPhone decodes it. Overall very happy with the iOS app.

I was a subscriber to gears. I am not any longer. There are several reasons.

  1. As the OP stated, is more like a hobby. Have the opportunity to watch live TV. With gears, I have to go through 3 Kodi builds to find one that would actually display the guide correctly. Ok fine. I trimmed Kodi down to default, added a skin, and 2 add-ons that I usually use in Kodi. (gears build for me seemed to noisy and annoyingly slow at times, in addition to having bloat)

  2. The guide is more. Ok fine, to get a useful guide you have to subscribe to pro. The free guide is essentially useless.

  3. One device. $15. Want another? Double it. Sure discounts are available but that falls into the steep range fur Iptv as a hobby.

  4. Picture quality. Yes it's good. But others are better, MUCH better. In fact, even after the above points, I rather enjoyed the service. To find that another was that much better was shocking.

  5. Omar. Enough said. Shady character. This "reloaded" package had been in the works for a while, promised dates pushed back several times. It also means more money. The pro guide was to be included, but today they state that only a few features of pro will come to reloaded, meaning you will still need to pay $2.50 on top of the $20. Per month on the new package. Want to keep gears instead? Sure, but plan to lose some channels.

  6. Channels. Yes. They are good at US channels. God forbid if UK channels are down and you mention it. It's a "bonus", not being paid for, and will get you banned. So for $15, you are limited. If you even want foreign, forget it.

  7. Kodi. It forces you to use Kodi, even if you use terrarium you need Kodi.... Just for live TV, if you want a guide. No external links.

I moved to.....Vaders. More channels than I will ever watch. A guide in and out of Kodi (m3u). Better picture, 5 devices on two different IP addresses. $16..... For the mentioned features.

Are they perfect? No. Is gears. No. Is anyone? No. But if I am going to pay $40 just to watch two devices at once, and something happens, and it had with gears, it makes me realize that $16 is just easier to swallow.

How's the free version differ from the Pro version of the Mayfair Guide?

I am overall, really happy with Gears (I'm not affiliated with or a re-seller of anything). I've had them for 3 weeks now with pretty much no issues.

I keep trying to find a good backup (since I keep being told that I should have an available backup), but I haven't found one. Right now I'm trying Vaders as a backup, and the TV part is fine, but the EPG is absolutely horrible!

If anyone knows of a good backup service, let me know (but not if you are shilling your product). I think that I probably should have one. I'm mostly using for Sports (NFL, NBA, NHL, College, PPV Boxing) and a little bit for premiums.

I went to the link OP posted but I only see a monthly subscription. Is there a one month only package available?

killabee444

Too bad they don't support the dreamlink t1. It's working well on Kodi though. What are you guys using for a program guide?

I want to trial it, but it looks like it has a massive ADULT section. Any way of having that deleted?
