Voodoo IPTV review. My first 24 hours.

by blazin503

For this review I am using a Dreamlink T1.

Pros:

  • Large selection of channels
  • Good amount of "HD" content
  • Speedy channel switches
  • Very good timeshift. Goes back 24? hours and many channels has it.

Cons:

  • Channel organization is horrendous
  • Too many duplicate channels
  • EPG is slow to populate and missing info on 1-2 out of every 5 channels
  • Some seriously bad picture quality on a few channels.
  • VOD movies appear stretched
  • Number of down channels

Overall:

I might be nitpicking with the EPG but I really did not like the amount of channels that weren't being populated at all. I mean, I can understand a few here or there missing but the amount I was seeing on the T1 was glaring. Also dissapointing was the amount of down channels. Again, I understand that it comes with the territory of IPTV but the amount of channels I couldn't view also struck me as too many.

I'll be passing on Voodoo next month and looking for something else or just going back to old reliable IPGuys.

Great review. I feel the same way.

But! I have a hint for you...

If you don't like how the 3000 channels show up, send a pm to your wonderful reseller and let them know what languages you don't want.

They can't remove individual channels, but they can remove channel groups if you have a reseller that knows what they are doing. Ie remove certain languages.

If English is what you desire that will cut the list from about 3000 to 700.

Knowledge is power ;p

Also, the epg info missing is not always the fault of the service. Often epg is not available at all for said channel. I challenge you to try to source out XML data for all 3000 channels around the world. It simply does not exist.

Even ipguys has some channels that are missing info, and they only have 1150 Channels.

Just being devils advocate here :)

I agree.. channel organization is very important. The best organization I seen is with ACE. It is awesome. If you want I can do a quick video on it.

I agree 100%, I have both Voodoo and IPGuys and run them on a T1. I only watch English channels and the EPG is pretty bad - alot worse than IPGuys. Voodoo channel changing is about twice as fast as Guys and the quality is a little better than Guys. But the down channels and EPG is driving me a little crazy on Voodoo.

Not sure what happened here but /u/stokedcrf has been nothing but helpful and informative.

I've now had voodoo for about a week. Using a new MAG 254. Most of the OP is right. One major issue (for me): many channels have the symbol for timeshift and also have the sub menu with days of previous shows, and even a listing with # of recordings, but they never download. Instead I get a Permanent Error. The record feature also doesn't work, even though it is never greyed out. Anyone else get these features to actually work?

Updated my review to add another Pro. Their timeshift is very thorough.

Hi

does your service allow scheduled recordings from an EPG?

Hmm...had Voodoo a month back and I didn't notice any EPG issues (was using the mag254 at the time but I don't think that should be too much of an issue when compared to the T1?). Of course you had a few channels not being populated but I wouldn't say 1-2 out of 5. only talking about English inc. sports channels.

Agreed on the channel organization and duplicate channels, it's really annoying. It took me some time to favourite all my viewing channels. As for the amount of down channels, most of the English ones seemed to work (again, not all though) - basically I didn't really have a complaint about that.

Comparing it to ipguys (on a T1) which I have currently, I honestly don't feel too much of a difference. The picture quality is a little better on most channels on Voodoo but reliability is a little better on ipguys. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with both and it's hard for me to choose one over the other. Channel list is of course bigger for voodoo but there really isn't any channel not available on ipguys that I couldn't live without.

Voodoo also didn't have VOD English TV shows (just movies), at least they didn't when I used them. That's not something I care about personally though, only really interested in live tv. And if you have the T1 or other android boxes, then you could just use Kodi anyway.

Where were you getting this voodoo service from? Does they offer trials and have a channel list?

Which country are you located in?

I agree. These guys are over rated and shilled heavily but I am not impressed.

Many channels are real shitty quality, you won't even get main HBO. The main one doesn't work. Peole rant and rave that their quaity is so great,on maybe 40% of the stations. The remaining 60% are really poor quality.

VOD movies are stretched badly. Unwatchable for most. I would say a good 30% of the listed channels don't work and a vast majority of their 1000+ channels are useless. Do you really need Friends in Urdu?

Same here, I chose voodoo from a reseller for USD$10 for the French channels only and so far here is my experience:

  • terrible order
  • some don't play
  • freezing / cut off etc.. I'll try something else next month.

Voodoo: i have been using it for about 45days now and it look like just what i need, 90% live channels working good, its have all the content anyone would need, not all HD but as i say 90% working and that means a lot to me that want to watch a full movie without much problems but from the last 3 days it have been sicking and the only thing with thing voodoo service is the support i am still trying to find out who to contact for help when channels go down are live tv starts to sick but i have about 21 more days so we would see what happens.

Great review and I feel the same way buddy. I use a service and I always look at the EPG first
